Last night, I watched the President address the nation. I don’t mind listening to him because it is very refreshing to have a President who can talk and enunciate the English language.
President Obama has only been in office 6 months. People seem to forget that. They also forget that he inheirited a DEFICIT of $1.3 TRILLION dollars, thanks to the conservative King George. People also forget that, when the King came into office, we had a SURPLUS! This country was like a runaway freight train headed straight to hell. On one car, was the out of control lending practices, on another was the financial health of the banks, another car had the economy on it and another car had out of control Medicare costs that kept rising, with no end in sight. Recession was slowly taking over this runaway freight train, and the King ignored it until his last 3 months in office. The fiasco of Iraq was sucking BILLIONS of borrowed dollars down the drain with no end in sight.
When Obama took office, he hit the ground running, trying to lasso this runaway freight train to slow it down. Remember, this train had been running and gaining speed for eight years. It is going to take far more than a couple of months to bring it to a halt. Republicans and those Democrats who come up for re-election in 2010, do not want to be a part of the lasso that slows the train down. In fact, even the leader of the Republican Party, the pill-popping Rush Limbaugh, has stated that he wants Obama and his policy’s to fail, and will do everything he can to influence his brethern to carry out his wishes.
See, the military-Industrial complex, along with the out-of-control Drug industry and Oil companies contribute HUGE sums of money to the campaigns and personal wealth of these individuals. Do you think any Republican Senator or conservative Democrat is going to bite the hands that gives them MILLIONS of dollars and perks by voting to reign in this runaway train? Not in my lifetime they won’t! It is called “greed”…simple as that. Greed is what makes this country run. When you have those individuals who surface and try to rein in this greed, they are called socialists (what do you think Social Security is?)
President Obama’s healthcare reform plan is only ONE part of this economy that needs fixing. To do nothing, or to let Rush and his co-horts have their way, would be a disaster for this country. Republicans don’t like to lose (they did). They don’t like not being in control of everything (they aren’t) They don’t like not being able to have their way (they can’t) and it infuriates them to no end! Just read anything by Ann Coulter. (She is either the most sexually frustrated woman in America or she wakes up laughing every morning)
President Obama did not cause these gigantic problems. He is trying to correct them by slowing down the frieght train. Stock market has stayed between 8000 and 9000, which means it has more or less leveled out. Some banks have begun paying back some of their bailout money. This could not have happened if no bailout money was given them. If these banks would have failed, from coast to coast, you would have witnessed a major disaster. If there is no healthcare reform, you WILL witness and your children will witness a medical disaster in this country.
American jurisprudence is not going to fall off a cliff when Sotomayor becomes a Supreme Court Justice. Those who dislike her claim, among other things, that she is a racist in some way. Somehow, I seriously doubt that she could have been appointed as a Federal Appeals Court Judge if she was a racist or a “brown supremacist”. Surely, she could not have risen to this point in her career if she was.
Another reason Republicans don’t care for her is a speech she gave eight years ago in 2001. In this speech, she stated: “ethnicity and sex of a judge may and will make a difference in our judging”. Well, sure it will! Women go through different life experiences than men do. They approach situations in life different, even things such as dating for instance or expectations of marriage if they are so inclined. Men do the same thing.
Lifestyles manifest themselves into a persons ultimate being. A child born into a wealthy family will have a different view of life than one born into poverty. A child that grows up with a single parent will develop a different perspective of life than one raised with both parents. Each child’s ethnicity, Asian, Black, Latin or White, will also develop different mores, values or sense of being in the world. I guarantee you, that Justice Clarence Thomas has a different perspective of justice, what is right and what is wrong, than Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg or Justice Anthony Kennedy. For instance, on a recent case before the Supreme Court involving an inappropriate strip search of a pre-teen girl by school authorities in Texas, eight of the Justices ruled that it was wrong. The one who voted for the school district was Clarence Thomas. Evidently, there was a completely different set of moral standards going on here. Somehow, I bet the vote by the Supreme Court on this case would have been 9-0 if Sonia Sotomayor would have been on the court.
Judge Sotomayor has also quoted professors of law who said that, “to judge is an exercize of power (which it is…just watch Judge Judy) and that there is no objective stance but only a series of perspectives”, which it is. When a case is brought before a jury, prosecutors and defense lawyers attempt to prove their cases by trying to alter the perspectives of the case in the minds of the jurors. When lawyers bring a case before the Supreme Court, that is what they are attempting to do…alter the perspectives of the Justices by justifying the reasoning of their position.
Another complaint that Republican neocons have, it that she can’t write “proper” opinions concerning her decisions. I, personally, don’t view this complaint as really being a legitimate one. Evidently, she has done well enough over the years to achieve where she is at. I’d be willing to bet that there is a huge percentage of Americans, including myself, that lack superb English skills. However, in reviewing the qualifications to become a Supreme Court Justice, I didn’t see that requirement. Maybe I missed it.
Bottom line is, I’d rather have a Justice ruling against a school district that wants to strip search a little girl than one who thinks otherwise, whether she can write a “proper” opinion or not. Clarence Thomas has been on the court since 1991 and has yet to write a single opinion.
Also, there are more females in this country than males. It is just the way nature works. Latins are the second largest minority group in the country and increasing every day. There has been two white women on the court and two black males. It is time for a Latin to sit on the court. If not now, when? There is no such thing as a “perfect” Supreme Court Justice in an imperfect society.
Ever wonder why the extreme lack of respect for the United States is prevalent throughout the world? This governments foreign policy is like a big snake with a forked tongue. Countries can’t believe anything that comes out of Washington. Under George “the King” Bush, Foreign Policy was a complete disaster and now, it seems that Vice-President Joe Biden, is continuing the same forked tongue approach.
Last year, the country called Georgia, which at one time was part of the former U.S.S.R., attacked two provinces that was comprised mostly those of Russian descent and Russia entered into the situation to repel the Georgians. Britain (the best hand puppet the U.S. has ever had), and the United States screamed foul…Russia had no right…Russia being mean…violation of rights…you name it and George “the cowboy” Bush, inflamed the situation. Want to know why he was so incensed? Bush was intending to place “defensive” missles in Georgia in order to protect Europe from any potential missles launched by Iran. Trust me, Russia is not buying it.
Now, flash to Israel, a country that has plenty of nuclear weapons AND defensive missles AND is in the flight path and fully capable of intercepting any missles launched by Iran towards Europe. Israel is such a close ally, that, instead of being in OUR pocket, the U.S. is in theirs.
Enter V.P. Biden: Joe says that Israel “has the right to defend itself and make its own decisions on national security”. So, Israel has this right, but Russia don’t? Biden further stated, “Israel can determine for itself – it’s a sovereign nation – what’s in their interest and what they decide to do relative to Iran and anyone else”. Israel has the blessing of the U.S. to level Iran and do a “pre-emptive” type of thing,anywhere and to whomever, yet Russia is lambasted for stopping missle launchers from taking up residence on their border. The United States would be very, VERY upset if Russia placed missles in Mexico…oh, wait…they did that in Cuba once, and the reaction by Kennedy was what? We didn’t like their missles in our backyard and they don’t want our missles in their backyard.
You can’t gain and maintain world respect when you have a double standard. The U.S. shouldn’t treat Columbia any different that Romania. It is wrong to force country’s into capitalism as it is to force communism on them. If our goal is to eradicate dictators from the world, which seemed to be the case in Iraq< then we have a country right off our coast. There are many dictators in Africa that we should force into capitalism if that is our Foreign Policy. However, that isn’t our policy…and Russia knows it and so does Israel…and so does most of the world.
President Obama’s choice for the Supreme Court has placed the Republicans in unique position. Naturally, it is the responsibility of the G.O.P. to oppose every and anything that the President does or says. It is just the way they are. They are still bristling over the loss of the White House in the last election.
Since General Motors was contemplating changing their name, maybe the G.O.P. should actually do the same thing to “G.O.H.P.”…Government of the Hypocrite People. These people don’t like the the opinion that she wrote concerning the white firefighters in Conneticutt. Well, I didn’t like it either, however, the case did go to the Supreme Court and Justice was served. There is no such thing as a “perfect” judge.
The main contention of the G.O.H.P., lies just below the surface in American racism. Judge Sotomayor is Hispanic. When she is confirmed, and she will be, she will be the very first Hispanic to sit on the Supreme Court. Right now, Hispanics are the largest minority cultural group in America. Yet, when it comes down to backing up their whiney cries for “equality” in this country, they are trying to do whatever they can to stab “equality” in the back. They would much prefer a stuffy white guy, someone like the former Speaker of the House Newt Gringrich or Rush Limbaugh to be on the Supreme Court. Well, G.O.H.P., it ain’t going to happen!
Since their drastic loss in 2008, the G.O.H.P. has attempted to re-design itself by their feeble attempt to reach out and court more minorities. They are not doing very well in this regard, to say the least, and with the nomination of Sotomayor, they are flustered. They are trying to have their cake and eat it too.
They want the votes of the Hispanics, yet do not want one sitting on the Supreme Court! And a female Hispanic at that! I’m reminded of that little story about “Chicken Little”. I can just visualize all of the pompous Republican Senators running around in the Senate chambers, crying out “The sky is falling, the sky is falling”!
Now you have to think about this: The decision by the Supreme Court on the issue of reverse discrimination concerning the white firefighters, was the right decision, however, it was made by a 5 to 4 vote. What about the 4 Justices that saw it Sotomayors way as a Federal Appeals Court judge? Not one word was said about them…not one. Yet, the G.O.H.P. is silently screaming and twisting about having a female Hispanic on the Supreme Court. Is she going to write opinions and vote in ways that many of us won’t like? Probably will at times, however, Clarence Thomas has been doing it for years and so has many of the others. That is the way the Supreme Court is designed to work as the third branch of government.
Good news, bad news or newsworthy? The Princess of the G.O.P. has hit all three of them. The good news is the citizens of Alaska will now have a competent governor instead of a glorified member of the PTA as their “leader”. Yes, I’m aware that the Princess was duly elected, however it was those who voted against the incumbent,Republican Frank Murkowski in the primary (must be pretty bad when a sitting governor loses to a PTA parent in a primary) and then refused to elect a former two-term Democrat Governor in the General Election. It was just being in the right place at the right time. Evidently, Goofy could have been elected if he could have run.
In all actuality, just what did she bring to the table? She basically run the governor’s office from her home in Wasilla, using an abundance of state funds to do so. Then used her position in a personal vendetta against a retired Marine who was the Chief of Alaska Law Enforcement. She preached family values, however the message evidently get through to her minor daughter, who proceeded to become pregnant! She didn’t know anything about world affairs, not even the difference between Iraq and Iran.
The only reason, and I mean the ONLY reason that Sen. John McCain selected her as a running mate was that she was a woman. When Hillary lost to Obama, McCain was trying to capitalize on all the disappointed women who were loyal to her. Well, as history has noted, that political move ended the GOP threat to Obama. Then, the infamous Katy Couric interview by the Princess Pretender put the final nail in the coffin.
So, what does this woman bring to the table that would qualify her to be President of the United States and Commander-In-Chief of all the armed forces? Tell me just ONE thing. Right now, her popularity as a Governor is sinking faster than King George’s did…AND she had two more years to go to complete the job that Alaskans elected her to do! And She walks away from it, claiming the “attacks” on her family as the main reason. Boo Hoo. Then, using one of her children again, claims that her 14-month-old son who has Down’s Syndrome, “had been mocked and ridiculed by some mean spirited adults”. Yet, when questioned about her statement, she refused to say anything.
That is the way Republicans do things…throw out a red herring and hope people go for it. The Princess Pretender should have paid closer attention to King George and Dick “Darth Vader” Cheney instead of listening to McCain. Those two were masters of the red herring toss!
Bottom line is, the woman was in way over her head in the world of politics and her lack of experience was fast catching up with her in Alaska. Quit while I’m still a little ahead…don’t waste or risk all of my political capitol in the next two years. That was her reason, and nothing else…that is, unless there is some gross mismanagement issues that have not been publicized yet, which wouldn’t surprise me. Could it be yet ANOTHER illicit love affair by yet another BIG Republican?
Finally, after eight years, we are finally going after Osama bin Laden! Remember who he was? For thos of you with short memories, he was the single individual, in fact a Saudi Arabian who was behind the attacks of 9/11. He is now holed up in a cave along the Afghanistan and Pakistani border.
While King George was busy going after the boogyman in Iraq, the Taliban, which had all but been defeated in 2001 in Afgahanistan were quietly rebuilding. In case you don’t know, Afghanistan is the worlds leader in growing opium and the Taliban reaps huge profits from it…I mean huge!
Now, flash back to Iraq. In 2003, King George tells the nation that Saddam & Osama are in cahoots. Osama sits in a cave and, upon hearing this revelation by King George, scratches his head and a little light bulb comes on. He thinks, “Why devise plans to kill Americans in the U.S, when King George is directing them to play in our backyard? I’ll just send our boys across the Iraqi border (which Saddam wouldn’t allow before) and create havoc with them in Iraq! Which he did, and was able to recruit Iraqi’s to his cause.
Flash back to Afghanistan: What U.S. troops remain, are sent to Iraq to back up King George’s invasion. Afghanistan is a country in size of 250,000 square miles and the troops that are left behind are minimal…basically, 1 for every 250 sq. miles. The Taliban, which had once been close to absolute defeat, now sit and grin at each other. They quietly buy nice new rifles, mortars, bombs, missle launchers, and everything in between…and they recruit. King George brushes off the alarm that the Taliban are rearming and are planning to re-assert themselves.
Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld (Never trust a guy named Donald), figured that, if anything really got out of control in Afghanistan, he would just call up a boatload of Mississippi National Guardmen. However, he don’t even do that, instead further reduces the troop level because, well, things just aren’t turning out so good in Iraq.
Things are going pretty good for Osama…he has his guys blowing up U.S. Troops, stirring up sectarian violence between the Sunnis and the Shi’ites in Iraq and working with the Taliban in Afghanistan. Most of his forces join the Taliban (Like a Catholic joining the Boy Scouts…you CAN be both at the same time) . Now the Taliban are coming out of their valleys and caves and causing problems for the puppet Afghan goverment. Now the U.S. is forced, get that FORCED to go in again and eradicate the Taliban, which now have a bunch of new and improved weapons. If theKing would have followed through and wiped them out in 2001, there would be no need for the U.S. to lose more of our young fighting men and women. King George bailed out of Afghanistan before the job was finished, just as his dad did in Kuwait, by not going into Iraq and getting Saddam THEN! which cost us how many lives?
Now, there will be an untold amount of innocents killed…more troops killed and more billions spent to correct the situations caused by the King and his dad, George the 1st…
It just amazes me about the amount of people who believed back in 2003 and still believe to this day, that the invasion of Iraq was about ‘Nation Building”. In reality, the whole fiasco was based on a lie, a lie sold to the American people by George Bush, who knew full well what he was doing at the time!
Remember when then Secretary of State, Colin Powell, went before Congress and implored them to back an invasion of Iraq? Then went before the United Nations on February 5th of 2003, and asked for the same thing, trying to get a “coalition” thing going ? I suggest for people to research his speech…as it was filled with nothing but one misstatement after another. Powell claimed that Saddam had purchased aluminum tubes to use for uranium enrichment centrifuges. Following the invasion, NO CENTRIFUGES WERE FOUND. Powell also claimed that photos showed proof of “Decontamination Vehicles”. But when the UN inspectors visited the site after the invasion, they located the vehicles and discovered they were just firefighting equipment!
Powell claimed that Saddam had illegal rockets and launchers hidden in palm trees in Western Iraq. None were ever found.
Powell also claimed, in order to spread fear (remember the invasion force used gas masks) that Saddam had 2,245 gallons of Anthrax. None was ever found, nor any traces of it was ever found.
Powell claimed that Saddam had an aggregate of between 100 and 500 tons of chemical and biological warfare agents, yet gave no basis for that claim to the American people or the United Nations Assembly. Absolutely, no biological or chemical weapons were ever found after the invasion. None, nada, zilch! And none were ever used against the U.S. invasion force because….THERE WASN’T ANY!
Powell also claimed to have an audio tape proving that Saddam was supporting Osama Bin Laden. The esteemed Secretary of State did have a tape alright, however, the translation showed that Osama wished for Saddam’s death. (which the U.S. granted his wish) Saddam and Osama bin Laden had a great dislike for each other. Osama was demanding that Saddam accept Al Quaida fighters into his country. Saddam refused, as it would have diminished his absolute authority in Iraq.
Anyway, continuing Powell’s debacle at the UN…he showed “spy photo’s” taken from high flying aircraft and a satellite that showed circles and arrows pointing to various fuzzy white blobs, identifying them as laboratories and storage areas for Saddam’s massive “Weapons of Mass destruction” program. Naturally, after the invasion, none of these “blobs” of white were ever found to be what Powell stated they were…not one!
In the end, the real proof that we were lied to about Iraq’s WMD’s is that none were ever found, which means that every single piece of paper that purported to prove that Iraq had them was by default, a fraud. There could be no evidence that supported the claim of that Iraq had them, because they didn’t and never had them. If one is taking the time to create fake documents, then the implication is that the faker is already aware that there are no genuine documents.
All of the talk about “Intelligence failure” is just another lie to cover up the invasion.There was no failure. Indeed, the army agents who claimed that Iraq was building uranium centrifuges received bonuses. When Hans Blix, the lead UN Inspector who was allowed into to Iraq by Saddam, couldn’t find ANY of the WMD’s, Labs, or storage places that King George very adamently said was there (but couldn’t tell him where to look) the Pentagon started a smear campaign against him (now, surely you remember that!) When the Director of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Jose Bustani was trying to send in chemical weapons inspectors, John Bolton had him fired before he could do it..
Now, almost seven years later and after the unnecessary deaths of almost 5,000 US men and women and thousands more maimed and disfigured, we are trying to find our way out of this sticky situation.
The Iraqi Lie has driven this country to the edge of bankruptcy. The cost has been estimated to be $3 TRILLION dollars by the time is ends…for what? Iraq never attacked this country, nor did they have anything to do with 9/11.
Everyone should know by now that Iraq is a smouldering keg of dynamite, just waiting to explode. Anyone who even thinks the Iraqi armed forces and police are capable of controlling sectarian violence in the country are nuts. The Shi’ites and the Sunni’s have been killing each other for centuries in the name of Allah.
The United States should have never invaded this country. Neither King George or his henchmen, starting with Darth Vader knew anything about the culture, the mindset, the customs, the mentality nor the Muslim religion. Then, into this realm of violence, you mix in the Kurds!
The current puppet government of Iraq says that their military is a balanced mixture of all three groups, the Shi’ite, the Sunni’s and the Kurds. That much may be true, however, their loyalty is not to Iraq as a country or to the Iraqi puppet government, which is backed and subsidized by the United States. Their loyalty, above all else, is to their religious principles and dogma. Just so you can understand this, in this country, which is considered to be a Christian nation, Christians are more apt to be loyal to THEIR religious principles than the United States. If they were to rank their loyalty, most would pick their God as number 1!
In countries like Iraq, religious fanaticism is the rule, not the exception. Both sects of Islam do not care for Christians either. They do not want them walking on Allah’s land, and both will murder Christians in order to appease and honor Allah. In the last 7 years, they have, on the average, killed and blown up each other at an alarming rate and each wanting to please Allah by doing it. This has been done in spite of having the might of the U.S. military in their country.
As the U.S. military pulls out of the various cities and outposts, violence will start to escalate. In a couple of months, if not sooner, you will see a deterioration of the puppet government and the United States sitting in the mouth of the lion, trying to find a way out of the country…a country we should have never been in, in the first place!
In some point in time, what is going to have to emerge is a strong individual who can keep both sides apart and stop the mass killing. He will have to rule this country with an iron hand and not be afraid to do so. He will have to be, as before the U.S. invasion, able to keep Al-Quaida and the Taliban out of the country. He will have to be…like…Saddam Hussein.
Leaders of the world, no matter who they are or what country they represent, can get up on their bully pulpit and holler and scream all they want in order to coerce Iran into doing what THEY want. Well, folks, it isn’t going to happen, simple as that, bottom line truth and fact!
Many individuals don’t like the way the Iranian government is dealing with the protests and others who didn’t like the outcome of their recent election, and especially those in the United States. However, you have to remember that, right after George Bush took office in January of 2001, He signed Executive Orders giving him the same power that the head honcho of Iran, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has in dealing with protesters. Just read the complete Patriot Act!
A simple majority of 50% plus 1, is all it takes to elect a new President in Iran. I can guarentee you, that at least 50% of Iranians despise the United States. You may not like the idea that the Iranians consider us the “Great Satan” (that title has recently been awarded to Britain) and you can’t understand as to why these countries don’t just love us! I mean, aren’t we the land of milk and honey, where everyone just loves each others culture and all get along? Not in your wildest dreams…
In the whole middle east, Israel wants to be the sole military power at all costs. They are the only country that has nuclear weapons and they do not want any other country to have them, nor ever have the capabilities to have them. They don’t even want these countries to have defensive weapons, and this government has contineously bowed down and supported every single wish and demand of the Israeli’s. Iranians know it, Iraqi’s know it, Syrians know it, Egyptians know it, Jordanians know it, Saudi Arabian’s know it and so does every single Palestinian!
Do you really believe that a majority of Iranians would have voted to snuggle into bed with America? So there may have been a little hanky-panky with the ballot boxes over there…but not anywhere near enough to change the outcome of their election! Now if you want to talk about hanky-panky concerning elections, look no further than what took place in Florida in 2000 or Ohio in 2004. Before we as a people start screaming about other countries elections, we better clean our system up first.
The whole mentality of this government and others that the only recourse is to “bomb, bomb Iran” is off the charts. Iranians are going to do what Iranians are going to do. And you can’t convince me that the United States and other countries, such as Britain and Israel don’t have CIA type operatives in Iran fueling the flames of discontent. If you don’t think the CIA is involved in some way shape or form, you’re nuts!
This government has the same penalty for what it considers acts of treason, and so does Iran. Difference is, their laws are based differently than ours. However, treason is still treason…and the Iranians know just what their form of “treason” encompasses.
The escapades of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford should be of a mind-boggling nature and of a horrific nature, but sadly, they are not. What is more amusing of the whole episode, is that he didn’t dally with a fellow citizen, but outsourced his sexual desires to an Argentinian woman.
On a more serious note, he left his state without a governor. This is the same thing as President Obama disappearing for five days, only on a smaller scale, however, the concept is still the same. Evidently, he told his staff or led them to believe that he was going for a nice little hike in the Appalachians for a few days to clear his mind from the stresses of being a governor. I think he was wanting to clear a little more than his feeble mind.
Naturally, upon his return and his gross actions having been discovered, there was the mea culpa press conference where he admitted to cheating on his wife, apologized for blah, blah, blah…etc. and asking for forgiveness. (Somewhere on the internet they must be a download for these kind of news conferences) The public have been bombarded with so many of them over the last few years, that they become meaningless. The only thing left in these “apology’s” that make them interesting or newsworthy, are the feeble explanations.
When asked if he would resign from his office he refused, citing the bible. Now, you really have to appreciate this guys boldness. In reality, and being a good ol’ Southern Baptist, there is no reason why he shouldn’t quote it and actually believe that he was covered in a biblical sense. And who did he reference in the bible? Good ol’ King David and his dalliance with Bethsheba. See, Bethsheba was a married woman and the morally righteous King was determined to have her for himself. However, for the good King to have her, her husband had to become non-existent…so he had him murdered, leaving Bethsheba single and available for the King…and the rest is history.
Governor Sanford believes that he too, can govern the state of South Carolina better than before because of his indescretions, just as the morally bankrupt King David was able to do. The King’s subjects forgot/forgave him and Governor Sanford believes that his “subjects” should do the same. He not only disgraced his wife, his childre and the citizens of his state..he then compares himself to King David. Many of his loyal subjects believe this crap. However, he only has a year or so left in office before he can draw a sweet little pension for government service, so, in reality, he could very well hold onto his position for that long.
Sanford isn’t going be the last Christian governor who will dally around while carrying a bible under his arms. Just stay tuned for another trip through the comic section of the political world.
